MULTAN: A police sub-inspector has been suspended on the charges of harassing a transgender in Punjab's Bahawalpur district on Sunday.

Scores of transgenders staged a protest demonstration at Kutchehry Road against the alleged misbehaviour of sub-inspector Raees Ahmad with a few members of their community.

Shehzadi Guria, a transgender, said on Sunday that sub-inspector Raees harassed her and also snatched some money from her.

According to Shehzadi, she was with her friends Sana and Malka when the police official approached her and started uttering objectionable words at her.

It was also shared that the sub-inspector had been following her since last month.

The transgender community demanded that strict action must be taken against the police personnel and the stolen money should be returned to her immediately.

Taking action over the matter, District Police Officer (DPO) Bahawalpur Akhtar Abbas suspended Raees. The DPO said investigation of the matter is underway and tough action would be taken against the culprit.
