CTD official sacked for sharing info with political party's militant wing

CTD STIG in-charge had provided classified documents to MQM-London's office-bearer

KARACHI: The in-charge of the Counter-Terrorism Department’s Sectarian Terrorists Intelligence Group (STIG) has been dismissed from service for sharing sensitive information with a member of a political party's militant wing.

Inspector Syed Ali Raza has been sacked for providing classified information to Umair Siddiqui, the in-charge of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London's Gulshan-e-Maymar Sector.

While being interrogated by a joint investigation team, Siddiqui disclosed that Raza, the in-charge of CTD Garden Cell which has now been renamed the STIG, had provided classified documents to him.



Additional IG CTD Sanaullah Abbasi then ordered an inquiry against Raza.

“Inspector Syed Ali Raza, in-charge STIG Intelligence CTD Sindh, Karachi, [was] served with a show cause notice u/s 3(2) (b) (c) of removal from service (special powers) Sindh ordinance of 2000 vide No. Additional IGP CTD Administration 2179-80 dated May 2, 2017 on the charges that former Sector in-charge Gulshan-e-Maymar Umair Hassan Siddiqui in his JIT made serious allegation against him regarding sharing sensitive information with terrorists, when the said inspector was holding charge of an important and sensitive position in CTD," read a dismissal notification issued by the CTD chief.

"His written reply was examined and found unsatisfactory. He was called to explain also but he failed to appear in person. Therefore he is awarded major punishment of dismissal from service with immediate effect.”
