PESHAWAR: Torrential rains and resulting flash floods washed away a young man of 16 in Chitral while 18 others were injured when the roof of a house collapsed in Khwazakhela area of Swat, during the past 24 hours.

According to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the teenager was collecting wood when washed away on Monday. Unfortunately his body could not be found.

On Sunday evening, the ceiling of a house in Shalpin village of Khawazakhela tehsil in Swat caved in due to heavy downpour. The room that sustained the most damage was where a khatam-e-Quran was being held.

A total of 18 people, including women and children, were injured. Of the injured, 14 were discharged after minor first aid treatment and four remain under observation at the Khwazakhela civil hospital.

The heavy rain also rendered useless a road in the Seem Lasht area of Chitral, but authorities cleaned it up soon after the rain ended.

The Pakistan Metrological Department has predicted thunderstorms in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat and Mardan divisions.
