Bumper wheat crop expected: Khan

Harvesting starts in Sindh and Punjab.

The government expects over 24 million tons of wheat crop in the current season, said the Food and Agriculture Ministry’s Wheat Development Commissioner, Dr Shakeel Ahmad Khan.


Khan on Friday said that wheat crop harvesting was in full swing in Sindh and over 115,000 tons while harvesting had also started in Punjab.

He said all arrangements had been finalised to procure wheat at the official rate of Rs950 per 40 kg to give growers a better return of their produce. He said that the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Supplies Corporation (Passco) had set up 200 wheat procurement centres in Punjab.
