ISLAMABAD: A senior Army commander on Sunday vowed to respond ‘aggressively and effectively’ to any Indian miscalculation or misadventure along the Line of Control (LoC), a de facto border that divides Kashmir.

The warning came from Corps Commander Rawalpindi Lieutenant General Nadeem Raza, who visited Battal and Dawarandi sectors along the LoC, said a statement issued here by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The commander appreciated high morale of the troops and effective response to Indian ceasefire violations (CFVs) to protect innocent civilians from Indian shelling.

Referring to self-defeated Indian claims of so-called surgical strike across Line of Control, the Commander reiterated resolve of the Corps to respond aggressively and effectively to any Indian miscalculation or misadventure along the Line of Control.

Tensions have been running high at the LoC between Pakistan and India for over a year now. The escalation began in September last year when an Indian military base in Uri was stormed by militants leaving 21 Indian soldiers dead.

India blamed Pakistan ‘based militant groups’ responsible for the attack. Pakistan denied the charge and called it an attempt to divert attention from the current unrest in Occupied Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Indian troops during an 18-hour long military operation martyred two Kashmiri youth in Barabugh area of Shopian district in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).

The two youth were identified as Tariq Ahmad Butt and Altaf Ahmad, and were killed during a siege and search operation in the area, reported KMS.
