KARACHI:

A woman named Aminat has accused the police of detaining her husband and his cousin for resisting the police’s alleged attempt to grab their land.

She moved the Sindh High Court, citing the DPOs of Tando Muhammad Khan and Badin, SHOs and Station Investigation Officers (SIO) of the Bulri Shah Karim and Kario Ganhwar police stations as respondents. Aminat maintains that her husband, Muhammad Anwar Kapri, owns two acres of land while his cousin, Ali Kapri, owns another four acres.

The respondents/police officers are known land grabbers and wanted to usurp the two tracts of land, she alleged.

When they resisted, an FIR No. 33/2011 was registered against Muhammad Anwar and Ali and they were allegedly detained by the police under Sections 324, 353, 401 and 398.

The petition came up for hearing on Friday and the SHC division bench was informed that both the men have been released.

The petitioner’s counsel told the bench that they were sent home and they have also reached the court to face trial for the case registered against them.

The bench disposed of the petition as the petitioner expressed satisfaction about the release.
