Criticising the apex court’s July 28 verdict which resulted in the ouster of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz said the nation has rejected the court’s verdict in which punishment was awarded before registration of the case.

“People have rejected disqualification of Nawaz Sharif. This is the first instance in which punishment is awarded before registration of a case. Not a single court decision has been rejected by such a large number of people and so soon,” she said on Friday.

Maryam left as lone wolf after Shehbaz’s London departure

Maryam was addressing a corner meeting in connection with the election campaign for her mother Kulsoom Nawaz – who is currently in London being treated for cancer. Kulsoom was given party ticket to contest Sep 17 by-polls for the seat that fell vacant after Sharif’s disqualification.

She said the entire world had seen that the Panama case continued for one and a half year and ended up on an ‘Aqama’ (work permit).

“The case started with the allegation that Sharif took money from his elder son and ended that he did not take a salary from his younger son. This is nothing but a joke.  The judiciary is remembered in history due to its good or bad decisions,” she added.

She said ‘the pawns’ who worked for ‘others’ had been exposed and there was no need to name them. “They could not face the PML-N in political and electoral arenas. They try to hide behind conspiracies, the courts or the election commission,” she said.

“Our future is bright and no one can stop it. We are not afraid of anyone or any criticism,” she added.

Maryam said she worked with her father as well as for the party. Her mother had to go for treatment as she was diagnosed with a disease and the responsibility of election campaign fell on her shoulders, she added.

“Many things will become clear with time. The time will unveil all the [back] stories. Mian sahib can elaborate what he hints at. He will return soon,” she added.
