MULTAN: The Netherlands is introducing a sponsored programme in Pakistan under which 10 officials with expertise in modern technology will arrive in the country for providing assistance.

This was disclosed by Netherlands Policy Officer on economic affairs Umair Ahmed, when he called on the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) President Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi.

Ahmed exchanged views regarding increasing cooperation in bilateral trade, agriculture, textiles and poultry. He said that the Netherlands and Pakistan are major trading partners, adding that the former was also the fourth largest investor in Pakistan.

The Netherlands primarily imports textiles, woven fabrics, linen and, increasingly, agricultural products from Pakistan. The main Dutch exports to Pakistan are oil and oil products, industrial and agricultural machinery, and chemicals.

Also speaking on the occasion, Roomi said that the Netherlands should provide warehouses in its country to introduce Pakistani products. He highlighted opportunities offered by Pakistan for Dutch companies in fields of cattle and dairy farming, beef and chicken processing, energy and IT among a few others.

Ahmed said that the Netherlands supported projects on good governance, water, education and the environment. During the phase-out period, a transition programme was set up to contribute to peace, security and stability in the region.

Since 2014, the focus of the development relationship between the EU and Pakistan was on good governance, the rule of law, human rights, education and rural development.
