GHALLANAI: As the nation observes Defence Day, the tribal leaders, security forces and officials of the political administration in Mohmand Agency gathered on Wednesday to pay homage to those who had sacrificed their lives fighting militants in the region.

They laid floral wreaths on monuments constructed inside the political administration’s compound and at the Frontier Constabulary camp of Mohmand Rifles near Ghallanai, in memory of the civilians, Khasadar, Levy forces and military officials martyred by militants over the past decade. More than 1,000 people from the agency are believed to have lost their lives at the hands of terrorists.

“We must remember the sacrifices rendered by these sacred souls (in the war against terrorism). They lost their precious lives to ensure a peaceful future for us,” said Mohmand Political Agent Mehmood  Aslam Wazir.  Malak Nadir Manan, a renowned tribal elder from Baizai tribe, said that tribal elders and youth fought alongside the armed forces to establish peace in the agency after it had fallen into the hands of militants.
