The celebrations began early on Tuesday night, as thousands of youth welcomed Defence Day with firecrackers and by organising big rallies in different cities nationwide. Special prayers were also offered for the early liberation of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).
Karachi
Celebrations in the coastal city kicked off with a change of guard ceremony at the mausoleum of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. A contingent of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) cadets assumed the responsibility of security during an impressive ceremony. PAF Air Vice Marshal Imran Khalid was the chief guest on the occasion.
Khalid, along with other senior PAF officials, offered fateha and laid flowers on the late Quaid’s mazaar.
PAF had also arranged a day long exhibition at its Masroor Air Base in Mauripur. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah was specially invited to the event, which was also open to public; it offered an opportunity for the armed forces to showcase its impressive fleet of aircraft and fighter planes.
A photo display of PAF heroes, including pilot officers Rashid Minhas and Muhammad Younus, Air Commodore MM Alam and several other local heroes particularly attracted the visitors, as they paid homage to the officers who laid down their lives for the country.
Shah said that the sacrifices made by our armed forces for the defence of the country are a source of pride for the nation and will never be forgotten. He also reaffirmed the need for all Pakistanis to unite in defence of their motherland, as the scourge of terrorism demanded mutual trust among all sections of our society.
