Strict security, vigilance ordered at airports

PM’s adviser on aviation says every possible endeavour will be made to ensure foolproof security at airports

ISLAMABAD: The prime minister’s adviser on aviation has warned the security officials deployed at airports across the country to be more vigilant and active or face the music.

“Every possible endeavour will be made to ensure foolproof security and strict vigilance at airports,” said Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan, while chairing a high-level meeting of the Aviation Division.

While sharing details of the meeting, an official of the Aviation Division, requesting anonymity, said that the warning was given to security officials after the yearly review contained of huge number of passenger complaints.

Lack of coordination between the staff of airlines and security officials is the major reason behind difficulties faced by passengers, he added.

He further said that majority of the complaints were against security officials deployed at the airports, adding that other complaints were about lost luggage or leaving it behind at other airports during transition flights, flight delays and behaviour of the airport and flight staff. 



He further said that Khan was informed during the briefing that so far 97 per cent of the complaints had been addressed.

The participants of the meeting also discussed in detail the security and vigilance process and reviewed progress on implementation of the previous decisions and also determined the future course of action in this regard.

The meeting was also briefed about the ongoing security measures and vigilance at airports. It was decided in the meeting that expeditious steps would be taken to ensure foolproof security.

Addressing the meeting, the PM’s adviser said that provision of facilities would be ensured at all costs at the airports.

He also ordered to further strengthen the security measures and directed to work on technological lines and intelligence in this regard. 



He told the departments concerned to improve their performance in order to facilitate the passengers and redress their complaints.

Directing the airlines staff and security officials to work together, he said that no laxity would be tolerated in this regard.

“Security department serves as eyes and ears and we need to standardise it and bring it up to the mark by utilising all possible resources and technology,” Khan added.
