Security system to keep entry points in check

CCPO says police have devised pre- and post-Eidul Azha security plans

LAHORE: Lahore Police is all set to inaugurate a security system to keep a close eye on entry and exit points of the city, said Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains.

He was addressing a meeting held to discuss security of town halls, animal markets, vegetable markets, railways and bus stations on Monday. All senior police officers, including DSPs, SHOs and administrators of vegetable and animal markets and bus stations also attended the meeting.



Wains said that they intend to formulate a strategy to protect the country’s future generations from terrorist attacks. To take security measures for every department was mandatory, Lahore police was using all available resources to protect life and property of citizens, he added.

Proper security at railway stations and bus stations is a must because people enter and leave the city through these places. Therefore, it was necessary that the administration of bus services ensured security and safe travel of commuters.

Speaking on the occasion, a senior police officer said that the CCPO was the part of their project of ‘111 Intelligence Wing’. A few weeks ago, the CCPO launched an application through which it was made mandatory for every police officer/official to provide at least one piece of information about an incident of crime every month. Some elected representatives were also included and were added to the application. On the other hand, police were trying to include people associated with the business of goods or passenger transport. The CCPO also said they have formulated a pre and post Eidul Azha security plan.

According to it, around 7,000 police officials, 84 SHOs, 25 DSPs and seven SPs would perform duty at Eid congregations at 205 open places and 2,703 mosques. Out of 2,703, around 103 mosques were considered sensitive. Besides worship places, police would also be deployed at markets, parks and recreational spots to provide security.

Mobile phone app launched

Punjab Police have also launched a mobile application for the 8787 complaint cell, said Punjab Inspector General of Police Arif Nawaz.

He was speaking at a meeting held at the Central Police Office in Lahore on Monday. Through the app, police officers, including the IGP, would be able to monitor development on complaints through their mobile phones.



Nawaz directed officials to issue explanatory letters and initiate departmental action against police officers who failed to get in touch with the complainant within eight hours. He also ordered improving the role of district foot constables to improve intelligence network of police and instructed RPOs and DSP to appoint highly professional police officers in the Anti-Organised Crime Cell.

Nawaz also directed Additional Discipline and Inspection IG Ijaz Hussain Shah to improve system of inquiries against police officials/officers.

Discipline and Inspection DIG Shahzada Sultan informed the IGP that they had completed 148 inquiries against a total of 179 applications they received and also sent them to concerned police officers for taking departmental action. Around 31 pending inquiries would be completed next week, he added.
