Residents of K-P, FATA protest against new US policy

Travellers from Pakistan-Afghanistan advised to restrict movement until further notice

PESHAWAR: The residents of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and FATA held protests, rallies and demonstrations, on Monday, across the KP-FATA region due to US President Donald Trump's new administration policy on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

In the early hours of the day, Afridi and Shinwari tribes from the Khyber agency gathered at Hamza Baba ground and held demonstrations on the road leading towards Torkham gate.

The political administration of FATA also advised transporters and travelers from both countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, to restrict their movements until further notice.

While addressing the gathering, leaders of JI, PPP and local Maliks said that the new US policy will engulf the whole region in fire and reiterated that tribal elders will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the army.



The speakers denounced the new policy and asked the US not to involve Pakistan in its war against terror anymore. They further said that the US was unable to achieve its desired goal in Afghanistan and was now putting the blame for its own failure on Pakistan.

Protesters chanted anti-US and Trump slogans, carried banners and burned effigies.

Similar demonstrations are also underway in Bajaur, Mohmand and South Waziristan agencies in which traders unions, students, religious leadership of the agencies are all participating.

Condemning the newly announced policy, FATA leaders also stated that they would be the first to respond if the US were to attack or extend their war, operations to Pakistan.

Religious parties in Swat, Upper Dir, Swabi, Kohat, Mardan and Nowshera have also announced anti-US rallies after Asar payer.
