Two young boys drown in River Ravi

LAHORE: Two young boys named Qaiser and Usman drowned in the Ravi River in the limits of Shera Kot Police on Sunday.

Police said that they had come to catch fish but later started swimming in the Ravi River to cool themselves off due to severe hot weather in the provincial capital. The victims dived in the river and started drowning. Residents of the area called the rescue teams on seeing the victims disappearing.

Divers of the rescue teams reached the site on getting information and started the operation to rescue the victims. After the operation that continued for three hours, the bodies of the victims were recovered.

Earlier this week, a teenage boy died after being dared by his peers to ‘jump’ in the Jhelum river, with the footage of the incident going viral on social media. In a video footage, Abrar’s friends could be heard challenging him to swim through the stream. The youth had been promised Rs15,000 cash and an expensive mobile phone in exchange for his stint.

Abrar eventually dived into the river but was whisked away by the gushing stream. Rescue 1122 Kotli Satiyan section fished out the body from the river and handed it over Abbottabad Police (Bakaut) who after legal formalities handed over to the aggrieved family.

All the five friends, who were booked under section 322, are on a judicial remand and will be produced before the court on August 25
