Seminar urges inclusion of calligraphy in curriculum
Speakers address 'Fun-i-Khatati; Tahafuz aur Faroqh Key Taqazey'
ISLAMABAD:
Calligraphy should be included in the academic curriculum, arranging a calligraphers’ exchange programme and introducing stipends for outstanding calligraphists.
This was stated by speakers at a seminar on “Fun-i-Khatati; Tahafuz aur Faroqh Key Taqazey” on Saturday.
The seminar was part of ongoing four-day International Calligraphy Exhibition organised by the National History and Literary Heritage (NHLH) Division in collaboration with Research Center for Islamic History, Arts and Culture (IRCICA), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
An associated exhibition at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) includes over 100 pieces of calligraphy. Addressing the seminar, Justice Dr Muhammad Al-Ghazali said that the calligraphers of Turkey had rendered exemplary contributions in the calligraphy of Quranic verses.
“The art of calligraphy is not only a source for the preservation of Quranic verses but fosters unity, highlights Pakistani culture and civilization at international level and disseminates spiritual teachings of Islam”.
