Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat talk about their upcoming film

The much-anticipated release of Punjab Nahin Jaungi is right around the corner and fans can hardly wait. Directed by none other than Nadeem Beyg, the film is action-packed and loaded with romance and drama. As we await its release, we managed to catch up with Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat behind the scenes to talk about their upcoming film

What did you think of the script when you first read it?

HS: I read the script of Punjab Nahi Jaungi and I asked my wife if she liked it, and she said she thought it was great. I actually read the script for the drama serial; those were just eight episodes at first. I liked it so much that I turned the drama into a film.

MH: I was blown away, it’s a simple story but the dialogues are so meaningful that I was just overwhelmed while reading the script. I laughed, I cried, it made me feel all sorts of ways.

How would you describe your character?

HS: A guy that is so full of himself, kind of stubborn and is self obsessed. In other words he knows he’s awesome.

MH: My character is just a normal city girl that has studied abroad and is quite modern so doesn’t want to go to Punjab.

What challenges did you have to face to adopt your role?

HS: The accent!

MH: No challenges really. It’s a simple story with a very simple character.

What should the audience expect from the movie?

HS: A lot actually. Masala, dialogues, music, everything!

MH: A lot! There is something for everyone. It’s a complete film. We have amazing music composed by various composers that we have in our industry each one introducing their own flavour to the music. There’s Sheraz Uppal, Ahmed Ali Butt and so many more so yes there’s a lot to expect, it’s a whole platter.

How similar is your character to you in real life?

HS: Not much really. I am a very down to earth person; anybody that knows me knows what kind of a person I am.

MH: When it comes to family values, I am very much the same and I have these elders in my family, I respect them and they are very close to me.

In terms of physical traits, who would you rate a 10 in the industry?

HS: Fawad Khan.

MH: Shan, Humayun Saeed, Fawad Khan.

After PNJ, what projects will you be working on? Anything we should be excited about?

HS: Jawani Phir Nahi Aani 2 and another project that I am not allowed to talk about yet.

MH: I am going to the US for my concert. I have a tour coming up so I’ve got a lot of concerts lined up.

One thing about your co-star that people don’t already know?

HS: She eats way too much.

MH: I have never seen Humayun get mad before but there was this one time during shooting that someone rubbed their cold hands against his back, it was winter time and he was already wet due to the rain and he just lost it. You wouldn’t want to mess with him when he’s angry.

What did you enjoy the most doing this film?

MH: All the songs.

After Yalghaar, what do you think is more interesting, acting as a negative character or playing a hero?

HS: Hero for sure. Negative characters get backlash which is not fun for anybody.

One movie character you wish you could have played?

HS: Scarface.

MH: Jasmine from Aladdin.

Who is your style icon?

HS: Al Pacino.

MH: Rihanna for sure.
