FAISALABAD: In a shocking incident, a minor girl was sexually assaulted allegedly by her neighbour in Moza Chayla, Jhang District on Wednesday.

While quoting victim’s father, Massan Police Station SHO Umar Hayat Wattoo told The Express Tribune that three-and-a-half-year-old victim (A) was playing outside her house when accused Muhammad Akram took her to a nearby date orchid where he allegedly raped her.

He added, “When the minor girl started crying, some villagers reached the spot. As a result, the accused fled the scene leaving the girl in a pool of blood.”

Umar Hayat maintained the victim was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. “The lady doctor, who examined the minor, said the private parts of the girl were damaged, which may lead to complications for the rest of her life,” he said. “However, the girl underwent a minor surgery and is under observation,” the SHO remarked.

He told The Express Tribune that accused Akram had been arrested and his seven-day physical remand was acquired by the court. “Although, the accused confessed to committing rape with the minor girl but a DNA sample has been taken for test for official proceedings.”

“Still, the accused needs to be interrogated to trace out the motive behind abusing the minor. A case has also been registered against him.”

While speaking to The Express Tribune, father of the victim, Tahir Abbas said he was a daily wage earner and have two children. He said, “Akram is my neighbour since the last 15 years and works at a farm of a local influential.”

“I cannot imagine he could do such a heinous act with my daughter as we have been living with each other for many years,” Abbas lamented. “We have good relations and such an act by a trusted neighbour is a serious issue,” he maintained. The incident had created panic and a wave of insecurity in the entire village, he added.

The victim’s father demanded of the authorities to award exemplary punishment to the accused for the heinous crime. When contacted, Sociologist Dr Ashfaq Mann told The Express Tribune, “It is a shocking incident and sexual assault with a minor is a compulsive activity and reflects cruelness in our society.”

“If a person abuses one minor, there are high chances that he would continue to commit such an act against others too,” he opined.

Mann pointed out, “If we want to stop sexual abuse in the society, we need to provide treatment facility to offenders rather than just awarding punishment to them.”
