Seven policemen, who had been abducted by bandits in the riverine area of Rajanpur on Sunday, have been rescued this morning after a successful police operation, the Express News reported.

The police officers were taken hostage when they were sailing on a boat nearby an island in the Indus River near Moro in the limits of Bangla Icha Police Station. The bandits took the officers and their boat to their hideout.

Following their abduction, the police started an operation in the area to recover the policemen during which intense exchange of fire was reported between police and bandits, added the Express News.

However, the dacoits managed the escape from the spot while the police successfully and safely recovered the officers.

The police officers abducted were identified as ASI Muzammil, Jamshaid, Safdar Hussain, Zeeshan Haider, Sabir Hussain, Muhammad Shakir, and Muhammad Luqman.

Senior police officers including DG Khan RPO Rehmatullah Khan Niazi and the Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan DPO led the heavy police contingent including Elite Force officials to the hideout after learning about the incident.

Two weeks ago, a boat operator and a police official were killed while six others including an SHO were injured when suspected bandits in Dera Ghazi Khan attacked a boat carrying a police team.
