LAHORE:

The court of the Beaconhouse National University (BNU) echoed with laughter and applause when stand-up comedian Saad Haroon took over the stage with his partner Ali Gul Peer on Tuesday.

The comedians touched on politics, schools and youth issues. Several people from the audience, called on to the stage by the comedian had no answers to his hilarious questions. Students found the performance spontaneous. They said the way the comedian interacted with the audience made the performance overwhelming. In one session the audience were invited to complete sentences, started off by the comedian. In another session Haroon and his partner presented remixed versions of Lionel Richie’s song Hello with Salam accompanied with rap improvisations over guitar tunes.

Asad, a BNU student, said that he was delighted. “We need comedy to cheer ourselves up in times of such political and economical crises,” he added. The performance concluded with the act where the comedian divided the audience into six emotions: anger, disgust, fear, boredom, frustration and love, each making a sound expressing itself when Haroon signalled them as if conducting an orchestra. Haroon said that he was lucky to have a job that made people happy. “I have the best job on the planet,” he said. He said he wanted people to take their problems a little lightly and laugh at them.
