The Sindh government decided on Saturday to declare Government College Hyderabad a university.
Presiding over a meeting at the CM House, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that Government College Hyderabad has successfully completed 100 years of educational service and deserves to be a university on merit because of its historical importance and good educational track record.

The meeting was attended by Education Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar, former federal secretary Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, Qazi Asad Abid, former MPA Abdul Rehman Rajput, Professor Idress Khan, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Universities and Boards Secretary Naveed Shaikh, Colleges Secretary Pervez Sihar and the college principal, Faisal Nasiruddin Shaikh.
The participants from Hyderabad had come to invite the chief minister to be a chief guest at the college's centenary celebrations being organised by the alumni association from October 9 to October 14.

Accepting the invitation, the CM said, "It is an honour for me and I want to tell you that I have decided to announce the upgrade of the college to the level of a university in my speech for your programme".
The chief minister directed Dahar to work out a plan and submit his recommendations in this regard.
