Thirteen of Khyber-Pakthunkhwa police's sniffer dogs, each costing Rs500,000, have died in the last two years.
Documents show that 51 sniffer dogs were imported for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police to help them deal with the rising wave of terrorism in the province, Express News reported.
Besides the Rs25.5 million spent on buying the dogs, records show that Rs10 million were spent in the last two years on their food.

However, 13 of these valuable dogs of the K9 Unit have died in just two years. The deaths have raised questions about how much of the funds allocated for the dogs are spent on them and whether or not they are properly taken care of. Besides low-quality feed, they are also not given proper medication.
Besides assisting the police in their crackdown on terrorists and other criminals, these dogs are also used in rescue operations following natural calamities and other disasters. They are also used to detect explosives.
