These policemen had been deployed in Gilgit a few months ago after growing incidents of target killing in the town, particularly the murder of Advocate Mir Nawaz Khan, a senior leader of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), in Gilgit in February.
“The decision has been taken to strengthen the security of Skardu and they [police] will go back in a day or two,” said an official, requesting anonymity as he was not authorised to talk to the media.
Shifting these officials to Skardu will mean Gilgit will be facing shortage of policemen during this time.
