CHINIOT: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, taking a dig at Nawaz Sharif, said on Saturday that the deposed PM was suddenly recalling the Charter of Democracy as if he had now come to his senses after long remaining intoxicated by power.

“He is now talking about [forming] a grand alliance and [offering to formulate] a new social contract. Mian Sahib, such crooked behaviour will not work anymore,” he said while addressing a gathering in Chiniot.

He said Sharif now remembered that as many as 18 prime ministers were not allowed to complete their tenures, but he did not mention his own role in some conspiracies to oust one of those prime ministers.

Bilawal said that the PPP was defeated in the 2013 elections through a conspiracy.

Appreciating the enthusiasm of his party workers, he said that the PPP would launch its election campaign with full preparation and not allow anyone to rig the polls.

Calling PML-N anti-labour, anti-poor and anti-farmer, he urged PPP workers to prepare themselves to defeat the PML-N in elections, adding that the PML-N and its leaders just wanted to stuff their pockets.

Democracy comes to Nawaz's mind only when he's not in power: Bilawal

Wondering whether this was the Pakistan that the Quaid-i-Azam wanted, he said that Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif were two sides of the same coin.

“They have both ruined the national politics. They are oblivious about the precarious situation facing the country. Leaders of the so-called major national party do not utter a word about real issues facing the country. They just want to grab power.”

About his GT Road rally, the young PPP chairman said the Supreme Court had disqualified Sharif. “He should explain against whom he is protesting. He is going with his large army to Takht-e-Lahore. Nawaz Sharif must realise the futility of the politics of hatred. When did the poor people living along the GT Road become important to him?” he said.

“What is our foreign policy? Why are we not being heard by other countries? Police and army personnel are rendering numerous sacrifices, but the terrorism keeps resurfacing. Where is the National Action Plan? Why is it not being implemented? (Military) operations are insufficient to end terrorism and sectarianism. The entire nation and all political parties need to wage a concerted fight against such evils if it is truly to be defeated forever. The National Action Plan needs to be implemented in letter and spirit.

Criticising the PTI government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Bilawal said that the chief minister was facing corruption allegations. Money earned through Pervaiz Khattak was being used to finance Imran Khan’s airplane and run Jahangir Tareen’s kitchen. Is there prosperity anywhere in K-P? If ‘New Pakistan’ means unleashing politics of abusive language, then we don’t need such a new Pakistan.”

He reminded services rendered by successive PPP government for the people of Chiniot, saying that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had built an embankment to save the city of Chiniot from recurring floods.
