Nephew of ex-chief justice shot dead in Multan

Victim was ambushed while he was passing through Cantonment Bazaar

MULTAN: A nephew of former chief justice Tassaduq Husain Jilani was gunned down by unidentified armed men in Cantonment Bazaar, police said.

A police official, requesting anonymity, said Mahar Muhammad Yasir Manzoor was riding a motorcycle in Cantonment Bazaar when the gunmen, who were travelling in a vehicle, opened fire on him and fled the scene. He added the incident occurred at 8:35am and the culprits shot him with a pistol.

He maintained, “The deceased was a resident of Maisli, Vehari District, and was associated with an intelligence agency.” The official opined, “It seems to be a target killing incident.” The police shifted the body to Nishtar Hospital for legal formalities.

Earlier, the bullet-riddled body of Inspector Umer Mubeen Jilani was found on Old Shujabad Road. Jilani was kidnapped by gunmen when he left his house in Garden Town for his office at around 8.30am.

Similarly, two policemen manning a picket in Iqbal Town area, Lahore were gunned down by three unidentified motorcyclists. Both the slain policemen, Constables Muhammad Asif and Mubashir, were deployed from police lines to perform duty at a security check post in Chanab Pulli area.

The policemen signalled three motorcyclists to stop but they opened fire at them. Both the officials suffered critical injuries and were rushed to Jinnah Hospital where the doctors pronounced them dead
on arrival.
