Indian deputy high commissioner summoned as ceasefire violation kills woman

One woman killed and another injured during unprovoked firing by Indian forces

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner (DHC) on Tuesday over ceasefire violations on the LoC that martyred one woman and injured another.

Director General of SA and SAARC, Dr Mohammad Faisal summoned Indian DHC J P Singh to condemn an unprovoked firing incident in Khuiratta and Karela sector that killed Munira Bibi, 35, and Farena Bibi injured.



According to the Foreign Office, Indian forces have violated the ceasefire along the LoC and working boundary 600 times in 2017 alone - martyring at least 25 innocents and injuring up to 110.

Condemning the indiscretions by the Indian forces, the FO observed that the "deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws."

During the meeting, the Director General urged the Indian DHC to ensure India's forces respected the 2003 Ceasefire agreement between the two neighbours, adding that the country should allow UNMOGIP to play its role as per the resolutions of UN Security Council.
