A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday challenging its move to appoint a judge to oversee the proceedings of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against former PM Nawaz Sharif and his family.

Barrister Zafrullah Khan of the Watan Party in his plea filed before the Lahore registry of the top court submitted that every citizen had the right to a fair trial.

Appointing a judge to monitor the proceedings of cases violated this right, he added.

He further submitted that every citizens reserved the right to appeal a court's decision and the higher judiciary should ensure that everyone was  granted their basic rights.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan to monitor NAB proceedings against Sharif family, Ishaq Dar

A few days ago, Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar had appointed Supreme Court’s Justice Ijazul Ahsan to oversee the proceedings of the NAB references to be filed against the Sharif family and former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

A notification issued on August 1 stated that Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar had nominated Justice Ijazul Ahsan as the monitoring judge to supervise and monitor the implementation of the Supreme Court’s Panama Papers case judgement that disqualified Nawaz and oversee the proceedings conducted by NAB and the accountability court.

ishrat salim | 7 years ago | Reply The decision of the SC is good as NAB has been found to be ineffective in investigation of high profile cases especially of NS and Zardari. NAB Chairman refused to appeal the case of Hudaiba Sugar mills during the cross examination of Panama case. Hence, the SC decided to appoint a monitoring judge to oversee that the investigation abd filing of references by NAB and accountabiluty court is not undermined and influenced by the govt of PMLN., that is why the court decided this actin, because no institution seem to be working in pakistan. Can the petitioner ensure that NAB and the references will be prepared as per JIT report as desired by the SC. The petitioner was sleepibg when implementation bench was formed by the SC to monitor JIT report on fortnightly basis. This is a similar step.
Sean | 7 years ago | Reply Can we verify how much he has already taken and will now take? He seems to be a fraudia who don't study and charges for nonsense advising sharif and current PM? In fact all fee paid, should come through Sharif pockets, it has nothing to do with Government.
