Matric results: Girls bag all top positions in general, special groups

Boys take first two positions in science group

KARACHI: The Board of Secondary Education, Karachi (BSEK) announced on Sunday the results of 154,499 science group students, 23,060 general group students and 93 differently-abled candidates who appeared in the annual matriculation examination this year.

With girls clinching all six top positions in general and special group results, the two top positions in science group were bagged by boys, while the third position was clinched by a girl.

BSEK Chairperson Professor Dr Saeeduddin awarded on the occasion a Rs50,000 cash prize to each of the top position holders of the three groups, while Rs30,000 and Rs20,000 were awarded to the second and third position holders respectively.

Scientist and former federal minister Dr Attaur Rehman was the chief guest of the result announcement ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed the need for developing human resources and progressing in science and technology.

"Human resource development is the reason behind the success of developed countries," the scientist said, adding that the students should also realise the importance of technology in order to advance in today's world.

 

Science Group

Ali Zia Khan of Kulsoom Bai Valika Civil Aviation Authority Model School secured the top position in the matric science group by securing 93.88% with 798 out of 850 marks. Second position was bagged by Syed Affan Ahmed Bukhari, a student of The Crescent Academy Campus 1, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, who obtained 93.52% with 795 marks, while the third position was clinched by Laraib Shahzad of Programmer School, North Karachi who secured 93.41% with 794 marks.

Date for matric supplementary exams announced

The pass percentage in the science group was calculated to be 72.73%. As many as 18,800 students passed their matriculation with A-1 grades, while 29,118 secured A grades. Additional subjects in the science group were cleared by 431 students.

 

General Group

In the general group, Romaisa Abrar of Iqra Hifaz Girls Secondary School, North Karachi Block B clinched the first position with 774 marks and 91.05%, while Sanobia Akram of the same school gained the second position with 89.76%. The third position in the group was secured by Zujaja of Citizen Secondary School Girls Campus, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, who got 89.17%.

Among the 23,060 general group students who appeared in the matriculation examinations, 229 and 1,436 students secured A-1 and A grades respectively. The total candidates who passed the examination were 14,055, resulting in a pass percentage of 60.95%.

Special Group

Among the differently-abled candidates, Faria bagged first position by scoring 737 marks with A percentage of 86.70%. Saira Iqbal secured second position with 86.35% or 734 marks while Rameeza attained the third position with 733 marks and 86.25%. All the position holders studied at ABSA School, DHA.

The number of differently-abled students who appeared in the examination was 93, out of which 89 managed to secure first division whereas four cleared the examination in the second division.
