PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has increased its compensation package for the heirs of policemen who die in the line of duty.

Addressing a function organised in connection with the Police Shuhda Day at the Nishtar Hall, Peshawar on Friday, K-P Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar said the compensation had been increased for constables and head constables from Rs4.4 million to Rs10 million; for ASIs and SIs from Rs5.5 million to Rs10 million; for inspectors from Rs5.5 million to Rs10 million; for ASPs and DSPs from Rs10 million to Rs15 million and for SPs and SSPs from Rs15 million to Rs20 million. The compensation for money for DIGs and higher ranked officers will be Rs20 million.

He appreciated the sacrifices rendered by the police force in the war on terrorism. “K-P police are a professional force and because of their efforts and sacrifices, terrorists are on the run across the country,” Qaisar said

K-P Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said on the occasion that around 80 per cent terrorists had been successfully eliminated and their hideouts and headquarters destroyed because of military and police operations.

He urged the general public to help police identify terrorists and their facilitators hiding among the population to get rid of this menace. He further stressed that without the support of the public it was not possible to wipe out terrorists hiding in the cities and villages.

IGP Salahuddin Mehsud said that over a thousand policemen of K-P had sacrificed their lives in the war on terror and the K-P police were on the front-line in combating terrorism and securing the settled districts.
