CM promises to make compensation for martyred officers' families on par with Punjab

KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the provincial home department to compare compensation being given to the heirs of police martyrs in Sindh with that in other provinces, so that it could be adjusted accordingly.

The chief minister said he has received reports that the compensation given to the families of martyred police officers is higher in Punjab. "I have directed the home department to examine the 'shuhada' compensation being given in other provinces. If it is higher in Punjab or in any other province, we would make it par with them," he announced on the occasion of 'Shuhada Police Day' that was observed on Friday.

The Sindh government awards Rs5 million compensation to the family of a police officers who lays down his life in the line of duty. In Punjab, the base compensation money for a martyred police officer is Rs5 million but it increases with the rank and pay scale of the martyred officer.

The chief minister appreciated the police department for observing Shuhada Day. "This day must be observed every year," he remarked.

Paying rich tribute to the martyred police and Rangers personnel, the chief minister said their sacrifices helped restore peace in Sindh, particularly Karachi. He pledged that the government will look after the families of the martyred officers. The Sindh government has allocated 300 acres of land for martyred personnel's families in Orangi, he added.

Various programmes were organised all over Sindh on Friday to pay homage to the martyred police officers. A rally was held in Larkana to pay respect to the martyred personnel, which was led by Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal.  Camps were also setup on the way for blood donation. The home minister, while donating his blood, promised that the Sindh government will not desert the families of martyred.

In a statement, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari saluted the martyrs of the police. The sacrifice offered by the martyred officers cannot be forgotten, he said.  He urged the federal and provincial governments to take care of the families of the shaheed officers.
