Complainant says police reluctant to investigate accused PML-N MNA

The petitioner says his brother was killed owing to political rivalry

LAHORE: The brother of Babar Butt, a murdered leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), reached a district court against police officials.

He accused cops of  not investigating PML-N MNA Sohail Shaukat Butt despite the fact that he was nominated in the FIR. Petitioner Qaisar Sohail Butt, the brother of the victim, complained to the court that local police ruined his brother’s murder case after coming under the influence of the MNA. He added  police seemed reluctant in making the PML-N MNA a part of investigation.



On Wednesday, petitioner Qaisar Butt recorded his statement before additional district and sessions judge Shahbaz Hussain’s court. The  judge fixed September 2 as the next date for further proceedings. The petitioner accused 17 people, including PML-N MNA Sohail Shaukat Butt of the murder of his brother.

He said Busharat and Shehzad Ahmed told him that they were intercepted by the MNA’s henchmen as they entered his office. The henchmen told them there was a meeting in progress and they would have to wait for a while. He said the door of the MNA’s office was open and a lot of  other henchmen were present.

He informed the court that Busharat and Shehzad heard Sohail order the murder of Babar Butt. On March 12, 2017, PPP leader Babar was murdered and the following day on March 13, Busharat and Shehzad narrated the whole story. He said the accused PML-N MNA had not been investigated in the murder case. He requested the court to direct the police high ups to ensure the PML-N MNA’s arrest and make him the part of investigation.



Qaiser Butt, in the registered FIR, said his brother and Waheed Butt were sitting in the drawing room of their house and devising a plan to welcome of PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto in Lahore. He added that was when Atif Butt, Irfan Jutt and two others barged into the room and opened fire. The victim suffered bullet wounds and his brothers shifted him to the Services Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
