Civil society: Demonstrations held against Jang, Geo

Protesters slam the publishing group for twisting AJK PM’s statement

Protests were held in Islamabad and Karachi on Monday against the anti-Pakistan attitude of Jang and Geo for publishing, airing and twisting a statement of the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir.

Members of civil society in Islamabad organised a protest outside the National Press Club. Protestors carried placards and raised slogans against Jang, Geo and Mir Shakilur Rehman.

Labour union leader Chaudhry Yaseen termed Jang and Geo anti-Pakistan and said that Pemra should take action against them for twisting the statement of the AJK PM.



Other speakers also spoke out against the group’s policies.

Speakers, including Mufti Abdul Qadir Jafar, Mufti Habibullah, Asif Tanoli, Allama Qari Sajjad Tanoli agreed that the group’s actions were condemnable and tantamount to treason. They urged people to boycott the group’s publications and said that such conspiracies would not be tolerated. They said the media should inculcate patriotism in the countrymen.

They warned that if the group did not mend its ways, a wave of protest would erupt all over the country.

Urging Mir Shakilur Rehman to desist from anti-state actions, they said that the group hurt the feelings of 180 million people.

Mufti Abdul Qadir Jaafar said that Mir Shakilur Rehman tried to appease India by airing and twisting the statement of the PM AJK.

He said that action should be taken against both organisations within 24 hours, otherwise a sit-in would be staged in front of Jang and Geo offices.

The Express correspondent in Hyderabad reported that PTI workers also staged a protest against PM AJK Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider.

They said that Kashmir was an integral part of Pakistan and every Pakistani wanted to see entire Kashmir freed from Indian occupation.



Condemning the statement of the AJK PM and the coverage given to it by Jang and Geo, they urged the Supreme Court to take immediate action in this regard.

Members of civil society also organised a protest in Mithi against Geo and Jang and in support of Pakistan Army and Kashmir.
