Education: Meeting with Sindh VCs planned

KARACHI:

Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Raza Rabbani and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah agreed on Sunday to convene a joint meeting of vice chancellors of all universities in the province.

Rabbani met Shah at CM House and discussed devolution of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and other federal government departments under the 18th Amendment.

The federal minister said that the HEC would soon be devolved to the provincial level. Funding to all universities, however, would continue uninterrupted. Students studying abroad on scholarships would not be affected either, said Rabbani.

He claimed that the vice chancellors of all universities attended an important meeting on Saturday and fully supported the devolution of HEC.

Rabbani told the Sindh CM that so far 10 departments have been handed over to the provinces under the 18th Amendment. Devolution of other departments is under way.
