Police suspect rival land mafia to be behind the murder

KARACHI: A suspected land grabber was gunned down on Friday by unidentified persons when he was returning home after attending a hearing at the City Courts.

The deceased was identified as 50-year-old Abdul Ghaffar Chishti, son of Ghulam Fariduddin. According to the police, he was accused of being a land grabber and several cases were registered against him.

The firing incident took place within the limits of the Mithadar police station. Chishti was critically injured and was shifted to Civil hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police officials said the deceased was a resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar and had arrived at the City Courts to attend a hearing for the cases registered against him. The officials added that the targeted killing took place when he was travelling back to his house.

According to the police, the deceased had disputes with a rival land mafia in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and both the groups had registered cases against each other. The police suspects that the rivalry group is behind the killing while further investigations are under way.
