Microsoft assures fans Paint isn't going anywhere

Users will be able to download it for free from Windows Store

Microsoft recently released a list of “Features that are removed or deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update” in which Paint was listed under the ‘Deprecated’ category.

All those apps/features that are “not in active development and might be removed in future releases” are included in the list.

The company’s decision to add Paint app ‘Deprecated’ category was not surprising given the fact that Microsoft in April introduced the new Paint 3D with the Windows 10 Creators Update.



However, the reports that the good-old Paint might be killed off after 32 years of its existence had triggered a strong reaction from fans on social media. Shortly after the reports emerged, Microsoft released a blog, reassuring diehard Paint fans that the app is not going anywhere anytime soon.

“Today, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support and nostalgia around MS Paint. If there’s anything we learned, it’s that after 32 years, MS Paint has a lot of fans. It’s been amazing to see so much love for our trusty old app,” said Megan Saunders, a general manager at Microsoft said in a blog.



Though Paint will not be on Windows 10 by default, users will still be able to download it for free from the Windows Store.

"Amidst today's commentary around MS Paint we wanted to take this opportunity to set the record straight, clear up some confusion and share some good news: MS Paint is here to stay, it will just have a new home soon, in the Windows Store where it will be available for free."

Paint is there ever since the evolution of MS Windows. The programme was first released with the very first version of Windows 1.0 in 1985. It was one of the first graphics editors used by many and became a core part of Windows.
