Microsoft plans to kill off good-old Paint

Microsoft has introduced the new Paint 3D with the Windows 10 Creators Update released in April

After killing off support for Windows 8.1, Microsoft is going a step further and may disband support for one the long-standing stalwart of the Windows experience, Paint.

A new list of “Features that are removed or deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update” was posted online in which Paint was listed under the ‘Deprecated’ category. All those apps/features that are “not in active development and might be removed in future releases” are included in the list.

With the Windows 10 Creators Update, released in April, Microsoft introduced the new Paint 3D, which is installed alongside traditional Paint and features 3D image making tools as well as some basic 2D image editing, obliterating the need for Paint.



That being said, it will certainly make people nostalgic for the time spent on paint.

Paint is there ever since the evolution of MS Windows. The programme was first released with the very first version of Windows 1.0 in 1985. It was one of the first graphics editors used by many and became a core part of Windows.

Besides Paint, the TLS RC4 Ciphers are also deprecated in the imminent release, along with the Windows PowerShell 2.0. The IIS 6 Management Compatibility and IIS Digest Authentication have also met the same fate.



Apart from this, the list continues with the removal of Outlook Express, the Reader and Screen Saver functionality in Themes.

Microsoft currently has not offered a precise date for the release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, but most users expect it to arrive in October.
