Kazbano Qambrani, wife of Abdul Ghafoor Qambranqi, who gave birth to the couple’s third child named Arsalan on Tuesday, complained to the police on Friday that her husband had sold the newborn for Rs15,000.
“She said her husband asked the couple Allah Dito Qambrani and his wife Sobia Qambrani to just pay the expenses of the private clinic [where the child was born] and take him away,” A-Section SHO Adam Abro told The Express Tribune.
However, the accused Abdul Ghafoor claims that neither did he sell the baby nor had the couple bought him, the SHO said.

He added that Allah Dito and Sobia are Abdul Ghafoor’s relatives and did not have any children. “They claim that the baby was given to them after verbal permission from the mother,” said Abro.
The police registered an FIR on Kazbano’s complaint under sections 363, 371 and 506/2 of the Pakistan Penal Code. She nominated her husband, the couple and a midwife, Khadija, in the case.
All the accused were arrested on Friday night and produced in a court where they were sent on a three-day physical remand back in police custody.
“I gave my son to my relatives of my free will and after taking permission from my wife,” Abdul Ghafoor claimed while talking to reporters outside the court with his co-accused.
Sobia, meanwhile, said that she could not have children and had requested Abdul Ghafoor to give them his son because he already had two children. She and her husband denied the kidnapping charges they have been booked under.

“We know each other well. How can we kidnap the child and bring him up in the same area?” Allah Dito asked.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Tando Allahyar SSP Shahjahan Pathan said the accused had denied that they abducted the child.
“There is a need to follow the legal way of adopting a child,” he remarked. “This case reemphasises the importance of following the legal method of adoption.”
Family member from both sides told local media that they were trying to resolve the matter among themselves.
Abdul Ghafoor is a labourer and Allah Dito works at a tailor shop. Both families live in Madina Colony.
