Developers of the housing scheme started construction without prior permission from the FDA

FAISALABAD: Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) has sealed an illegal housing colony WAPDA City at Canal Road on Friday.

A spokesperson of FDA said under the Local Government Ordinance 2001 and Development of Citizens Act 1976, all the housing scheme developers were bound to seek permission from the FDA before developing any residential scheme or starting constructions, but the developers of the housing scheme started constructions without getting prior permission from the FDA.

While taking notice of the irregularity, FDA Director-General Yawar Hussain along with his team sealed the premises of WAPDA City on Canal Road, he added.

Meanwhile, Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and Irrigation authorities arrested 18 people involved in electricity and water theft. Police said FESCO task force raided Chak No 43, 51, 37, 53 and Block 10 and caught 12 people over power theft charges.

Unauthorised Construction: Notices issued to illegal buildings 

The team also conducted a raid at Chawa Village and nabbed six farmers for stealing water from canals. In another incident, a sewer man was electrocuted to death while desilting sewerage line in the area of Ghulam Muhammad Abad. Police said Sadiq Masih, 24, was busy in desilting sewerage line at Dew Road when he accidentally touched a live electricity wire and received a fatal shock.
