ISLAMABAD: Popular Korean pop music, known as K-Pop has finally arrived in Pakistan.

Students of the Korean language at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), in collaboration with Islamabad King Sejong Institute, on Thursday held a K-Pop World Festival.

Around 20 selected participants from across the country sang popular K-Pop songs apart from showcasing their dancing skills, a statement said on Thursday.

Showing how the Korean wave, commonly known as `Hallyu’, has swept through the country, a girls group called “Sun Shine Girls” comprising Komal, Mahnoor and Hadiqa, won the first prize in the dancing category.

They performed on the famous girl group SNSD (Girls Generation) song “Catch me if u can”. Sophia Mujahid and Sameed Hassan won the second and third prizes respectively.

In the singing competition, Abdul Ghaffar Minhas won the first prize for singing “Nea Bakcha” while Arir Rang and Amber Malik won the second and third prizes respectively.

The winners would have a chance to participate in a fully-funded main round of K-Pop festival in Korea.

Kim Jinwook, Charge De Affairs at the Korean Embassy, appreciated the hard work of the participants.

NUML Director General Brigadier Riaz Ahmed Gondal, while congratulating the winners, said that he was highly impressed by the multi talented participants and the enthusiastic audience.
