RAWALPINDI: Rawat police on Wednesday arrested two police constables and a man for allegedly illegally detaining a man demanding money from his relatives for his release.

Naeem Ahmed told the Rawat police that he and his relative Nazir Ahmed were commuting to a private housing society in their car.

He said that unidentified men riding in a private vehicle intercepted them and forcibly took Nazir away.

Later, the alleged kidnappers called Naeem and asked him to pay Rs50,000 for Nazir’s safe release. The callers, Naeem said, identified themselves as policemen.

Acting on Naeem’s complaint, a squad of the Rawat police headed to the Soan bus terminal, where the callers had asked Naeem to drop off the money. When the suspects came to collect the money, police officials arrested three suspects. Based on the information they provided, police recovered Nazir from the room of a local hotel.

The suspects included two police constables who were identified as Tausif Satti and Changhaiz Khan.

Rawat SHO Basharat Abbasi said that the constables disclosed that they had detained Nazir after recovering a small amount of hashish from his possession. The constables later decided to call his relatives and demand a bribe to set him free.

The SHO said the police also arrested a third man, an accomplice of the two constables. The police booked the three and launched an investigation into the case.
