5 years since Mehdi Hassan left us
He was born on July 18 in Luna village of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan (India) in 1927. His family migrated from Rajasthan to Pakistan at the time of partition in 1947. He received his musical training under his father Ustaad Azeem Khan and his uncle Ustaad Ismael Khan, who were classical musicians, well-versed in 'dhurpad' style of singing.

Hassan was given the opportunity to sing on Radio Pakistan, primarily as a thumri singer, that earned him recognition within the musical fraternity.
