An Indian army officer, posted in the Uri sector of Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK), on Tuesday pumped five bullets into an army major, killing him on the spot.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the army officer – whose identity is not known yet – killed Major Shikhar Thapa after he reprimanded the officer for using a cell phone on duty in Kashmir.

Shikhar Thapa belonged to the Indian army’s elite counter-insurgency unit deployed in the valley, it said. Meanwhile, Indian Army officials confirmed the fratricidal killing, saying details were being ascertained.

Major Thapa pulled up the army officer and told him that he would be reported to the commanding officer for using his cell phone while on duty in a sensitive area.

The cell phone was damaged while being confiscated, which led to an intense argument following which the Indian officer shot the major with his AK-47 rifle.
