I am extremely one-sided, perhaps even selfish

Escorting Simran on a moving train, telling Anjali that he loves her on the day of her wedding and earning the wrath of his loaded Raichand family to be with the love of his life, the King of Romance, Shah Rukh Khan, has set a different bar when it comes to wooing women and displaying romantic gestures, because bade bade deshon main choti choti batain hoti rehti hain!

When it comes to real life relationships though, the King of Romance is far from the iconic love hero he is famous for. As reported by Hindustan Times, he claims to be an emotionally detached person who is not too good at romance whatsoever - and that is exactly the challenge that thrills him as an actor; to be able to essay characters that are poles apart from his own personality.

“I am pathetic with relationships. I am so pathetic that I am comic,” the superstar confesses.

“I am extremely one-sided, perhaps even selfish. Actually, I am very detached. I am demotional - emotional and detached, I don’t know how it works. I won’t be able to say anything that I’ve done in my films to a girl, or even in relationships...," he adds. Oh dear, the irony.

Not only is Shah Rukh below par about expressing himself romantically, but the 51-year-old superstar is also an introvert. “I am extremely closeted, introverted, shy, reclusive and completely shut off about my emotions.”

Don't be surprised if Gauri Khan goes on record saying that her husband is emotionally unavailable. Proof: "If somebody said what did you say to him or her when he or she said this, my answer would shock you. They are like ‘but how could you?’ and I say, ‘I don’t know how else to relate to this.’ I am very bad with relationships, I am awful.”

Shah Rukh also delved into the absurdity of his romantic Bollywood pursuits and warns his fans of the impracticality of the grand gestures his characters are famous for - and says he would never encourage those acts.

“I am not telling you to run after a train and climb it. In real life, I would stop the train, or say let’s meet at the next station. I would never do it in real life, putting my hand out, beating her would-be-husband. In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, the girl is getting married to a guy downstairs, I walk up to her and say ‘I love you’. Now that’s extremely weird!” remarks the Raees star.

The difference in real life and reel life, opens an avenue to vent or display the skill of a good actor, the superstar points out.

“I don’t have to believe in it, I have to make you believe in it and that’s a challenge always... An actor always goes for something that he is not. It’s a vent. I want to be a Batman, Spider-Man, a fire fighter, an evil conniving don and I want to be the greatest lover in the world. And I am not any of these. That’s why it turns me on,” he says.

He is playing yet another love-hero in his upcoming movie, Jab Harry Met Sejal. The character Harry flaunts chest tattoos. Again something he would never sport in real life.

“I am freaking scared of tattoo needles. I am an extremely normal guy,” King Khan added.
