PSP worker killed, another critically injured in Karachi

KARACHI: A local office bearer of the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) was shot dead and another critically wounded in a targeted attack Monday evening in the Orangi Town neighbourhood.

The incident took place when the PSP local leaders were sitting near Qaddafi Chowk in Orangi Town. According to the police and witnesses, two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire at them and escaped the scene. Both office bearers were shot multiple times at close range.

One of the targeted men, Abdul Majeed alias Nadeem Mullah, died on the spot while his companion sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

A contingent of police and Rangers personnel reached the site and collected evidence. The police claimed to have found empty shells of a  nine millimetre pistol from the crime scene.

Terming the incident an act of targeted killing, a police official, Ghulam Abbas, confirmed that the targeted men were affiliated with the PSP. Both the men reportedly joined the PSP soon after Mustafa Kamal had formed the party.

This is the first major incident of targeted killing aimed at PSP workers in the city. No case had been registered till the filing of the story while further investigations are under way.
