LAHORE: The leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has invited all the members of the PML-Nawaz to rejoin their party and make democracy more meaningful.

Democracy is not a registered party of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, nor is corruption and cheating people in the name of democracy, the leadership said while addressing a crowded press conference after a high-level meeting at their residence on Sunday.

“People of Pakistan and constitutional institutions are the guarantors of democracy and we are standing with them,” said PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

Expecting a positive verdict in the Panama case, Shujaat said “Opposition parties are unanimous over sending Nawaz packing.”

“As a Muslim Leaguer it is our duty that we play a positive role,” he said, adding that he would tour all provinces and try to bring all Muslim Leaguers together on one platform.

He said during the meeting he was fully authorised to take any decision on behalf of the party in the prevailing political situation.

PML-Q Senior Central Leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said, “Right from the start of Panama case our party’s stance has remained the same. In the TOR Committee, our representatives - PML-Q Secretary General Tariq Bashir Cheema and Senator Kamil Ali Agha - were present, but the PML-N did not play a positive role.”

Upon Supreme Court’s verdict, they were distributing sweets. Then someone told them to read the verdict, which was in English, first. When they understood the verdict, some of their advisers and ministers started talking against, not only the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), but also the national institutions, Elahi said.

Democracy is a system behind which PML-N hides, he said,

“Has PML-N ever done a single work to eradicate poverty during its rule in Punjab for over 10 years?” he said. “If they still do not resign and there is some chaos then Nawaz will be responsible for that.”

He said that there are good people also in PML-N.

Inviting them to return to their party and serve the country together, he said, “Wherever anyone with Muslim League thinking is present, we will welcome him/her to PML-Q.”

He said for showing solidarity and representing Muslim League, Shujaat will go to the Supreme Court on Monday (today).

Answering a question, Elahi said that 98 per cent opposition parties are unanimous on one stance – Nawaz should resign.

It is a cause for concern that PML-N has not provided any relief to the farmers and cheated them, he said, adding that even more disconcerting are the facts that PML-N has remained silent over Kulbhushan Jadhav, Indian spy sentenced to death by a military court, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s anti-Pakistan measures.

He said, “We should wait for the verdict of the Supreme Court as it will be in favour of the country and the nation.”

Earlier, through a unanimously adopted resolution in the meeting, it was demanded that Nawaz Sharif should pay heed to the voice of the nation and should immediately resign from the office of the prime minister.

The meeting appreciated the comprehensive and investigative report of the JIT. After going through proofs and other documents in the report, the meeting agreed that there remained no doubt that Nawaz Sharif and his family were involved in grievous crimes of money laundering, forgery, misuse of power, loot of Pakistani exchequer and therefore, they lost justification for staying in power.

The meeting was participated by Cheema, Agha, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Moonis Elahi, MNA Zain Elahi, Chief Organiser Muhammad Basharat Raja, General Secretary Punjab Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Riaz Asghar Chaudhry, MPAs Punjab Aamir Sultan Cheema, Vickas Hassan Mokal, Ahmad Shah Khagga and Khadeeja Umar among several other leaders.
