Chairlift accident: Five people drown in Swat River

Seven people were on the chairlift when its cable snapped midway

SWAT: In yet another chairlift incident, five people drowned in river Swat on Saturday. The incident occurred in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Kalam village.

According to an eyewitness, seven people were on the chairlift when its cable snapped midway over the river. While five people drowned in the river, two were rescued alive.

Authorities were able to recover two bodies while search was underway for the other three till the filing of this report.

SHO Fazal-e-Rabbi said the chairlift was run by local people and it had been in use for many years.

In a similar incident, 12 people had been killed in Murree hill resort of Punjab province on June 29.
