Earlier in the week it was reported that the casting of the upcoming live action musical Aladdin is taking longer than expected and Guy Ritchie is determined to find just the right person for the job.

Disney struggling to find an actor to play Aladdin in its live-action remake

As reported by Cosmopolitan, the production house is on a global hunt for the actors and is going an extra mile looking for artists of Middle Eastern or Indian descent. Riz Ahmed and Dev Patel were on the cards, but no deals have been finalised yet.

There is no Aladdin without the ethereal Jasmine, and since romantic chemistry is an integral part of the narrative, the deal has not been locked for the lead lady either.

While the team might be struggling with finding the right actor, Aladdin fans seem to be convinced that Avan Jogia should play the lead and admittedly, the actor does show an uncanny resemblance to the charming cartoon character.

Fans also seem have picked a Jasmine for Disney to complement Avan Jogia

The debate has also taken a racist tone as fans are shocked at Disney's struggle with finding the right South Asian actors.

Spider-Man swings into Marvel Universe for latest film

Although twitter is stormed with bright suggestions on the casting of the musical, Hindustan Times reports that the Indian actor, Siddharth Gupta has been finalised for the lead.

“The makers were desperate to find an Indian actor who was not only a fresh face but also fits the role of an adventurous boy. Siddharth is perfect for it, and has already signed the Non Disclosure agreement with the Film’s makers.” , says the report. As for the rest of the cast, Sasha Agha and Tara Sutaria are  on the cards and...

“Both the actresses gave the audition, and have been shortlisted from hundreds of candidates.”

What is confirmed though? Will Smith will be essaying the role of Genie.
