Pakistanis are well aware of what their rights are and also expect that their rights are respected.

This was stated by the UN Information Centre Director Vittorio Camarotta at a screening of Pakistan’s first ever review under the International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) at the Palais de Wilson, Geneva.

The screening had been organised by the Justice Pakistan Project and the UN Information Centre.

Camarotta stated that they had translated the universal declaration of human rights into multiple languages including Urdu and Pashto so that all Pakistanis can access this vital document.

The UN Human Rights Officer Christine Chung, who spoke via a video link, stated that the review was an opportunity for Pakistan to present their position on the ICCPR.

The committee asked the Human Rights Minister Kamran Michael some stinging questions with regards to the human rights records including a resumption of executions, especially for those not involved in terrorism.
