Three murder convicts hanged in Sargodha jail

Convicts had gunned down four people on resistance during a robbery attempt

SARGODHA: Three convicts involved in murder cum robbery case in the precincts of Bhalwal police station were hanged to death at District Jail, Sargodha on Tuesday.

Jail officials said criminals Yaqoob, Ghulam Rasool and Imran had gunned down four people, including Arsalan, Shahid, Muqadas Bibi and Kulsoom Bibi on resistance during a robbery attempt in Dewal Village, Bhalwal Tehsil on February 29, 2008.

An anti-terrorism court in Sargodha sentenced to death all the three convicts. District and Sessions Judge Sohail Ikram issued their black warrants after the president rejected their appeal for mercy.

Earlier, three more death row prisoners were hanged in the Attock, Mianwali and Jhang prisons. Death row convict Sultan, who had killed his wife in 2007 over a family dispute, was executed in District Jail, Attock, while Ghulam Gilani, who was convicted for killing his two nephews in 2004, was hanged to death at District Jail, Mianwali.
