Known for its exotic fragrances, India's popular perfume maker Kannauj is set to raise a stink to keep stone-pelters in held Kashmir at bay, Hindustan Times reported.

The new odour is being developed by scientists of Kannauj-based Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre (FFDC). “It is a capsule which will burst and create smoke having unbearable odour,” said Shakti Vinay Shukla, principal director FFDC.

Five killed in latest Indian-occupied Kashmir violence

The stink bombs will be handed over to the Indian army after getting all necessary permissions, clearances and approvals from the Defense Research and Development Organisation [DRDO] and the Union Minister for Defence, according to the report.

Pellet guns, which are used by the armed forces currently to contain and control violence in held Kashmir,  has caused severe eye injuries to hundreds of people, and their use is dangerous. While police maintains it is a non-lethal weapon, doctors treating pellet victims claim that it damages vision forever.

“The odour producing chemicals would be put in small glass capsule. These capsules will be fired through tear guns,” said Shukla adding, the scientists at the defence laboratory at Gwalior would conduct the trial soon.
