First technical varsity to start admissions in October

Initially, UTVE will offer six to nine degree programmes to 2,200 students

LAHORE: Admissions for the University of Technical and Vocational Education (UTVE) will start in October and the institute will start functioning within the current year.

This was announced by Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Chairman Irfan Qaiser Shekih on Tuesday. He was talking to a six-member Tianjin University of Technical Education (TUTE) China delegation which visited TEVTA to finalise the establishment of the varsity.

Minister for Industries Sheikh Allaudin, TEVTA Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and Vice President TUTE Yan Bing were present on occasion. The chairman said that the university would initially offer six to nine degree programmes to 2,200 students, including BSc Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Automobile, IT, Architecture and Textile Designing.

He pointed out that Higher Education Commission (HEC) dictated that land for the varsity would be selected from current TEVTA colleges located in Township and Raiwind Road. Once a college is selected, it would be given the status of a university which would be established in collaboration with TUTE.

The faculty for the varsity would be hired as per HEC’s criteria. At the same time, TUTE’s master trainers will help set up modern labs and syllabus.]

The minister said that the university would provide an opportunity to the youth of Pakistan to get international standards of technical and vocational education. Yan Bing said UTVE is an example of the Pak-China friendship.

The agreement for establishing UTVE was signed by Chairman TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh during Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China last month.
